Commercial and residential window tinting has many purposes now. From UV protection to defense against break-ins, you have many options to choose from.
While the variety is nice, you may not need certain features when buying a new tint for your business' windows. If you're worried about window tint costs, it's crucial to weigh the options so you don't pay for something you don't need.
If you're looking for commercial window tint, keep reading for tips on how to lower your company's window tint costs.
There are three main types of window tint that offer varying protection and ambiance. The first type we'll go over is solar tints.
Solar tints' main purpose is to save you money on electricity. The thick film is designed to reflect UV rays in the summer and absorb them in the winter.
This will ensure that the temperature inside of your business is well-regulated. It also reduces glare and prevents furniture, paint, and other light-sensitive items from fading in the sun.
With solar window tint, you cut electricity costs and ensure that employees and customers are comfortable while inside. It's great for businesses in extremely hot or cold climates or businesses with a lot of windows.
The second main type of window tint is for security. The thickest film available, security tint ensures that windows crack into large pieces instead of shattering when broken.
Security tint is great for businesses located in areas with frequent extreme weather such as hurricanes and tornadoes. It can also be useful if your business is in a high-crime area, or frequently targeted for theft or vandalism.
The last main type of window tint is decorative tint. This tint has less practical use and is more for beautification and privacy.
Decorative tint can be clear or colored and can be solid or etched with patterns. This is great for making your business stand out, or to give your employees and customers more privacy.
While all of these tint ideas are great, some may not be the best option for your business. Here are some things to take into consideration when choosing a business window tint.
While solar tint has many benefits, some windows shouldn't be fitted with solar films.
Clear annealed glass thicker than ⅜-inch or that has a heat absorption rate of more than 50 percent should not be covered with solar tint, as the heat absorption rate is already so high. Solar tint could cause it to crack under thermal stress.
This is also true for tinted annealed glass over ¼-thick and insulated glass that is over 10 years old or has seal failures.
The same thing can be said for security tint. If your business already has reinforced, bulletproof, or double-hung windows, you may not need to pay for the security tint.
Be sure to consider the above so you don't end up paying for something you don't need.
Now that you know the types of window tint and their compatibility with windows, we can talk pricing.
The average solar tint will cost $7-$10 per square foot. Expect security tint to be a little cheaper, between $6-$9 per square foot.
Decorative tint has a wider cost range. Depending on the design, expect to pay anywhere from $5-$10 per square foot.
Now you should understand the different types of tint, when they're best utilized, and how much they cost. It's time to make an informed decision on the right window tint for your business so you can keep costs as low as possible.
